A BUILDER of Chinese restaurants has been banned from driving for 60 days after he admitted a hit and run on a parked van.

Nicholas Cheuk Ning Yeung (CORR) had initially denied driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and after an accident and failure to report an accident to police.

But the 23-year-old changed his pleas to guilty when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court in County Durham yesterday. (MON)

The court heard that Yeung, of The Open in Newcastle City Centre, had collided with a van parked on Clyde Terrace in Spennymoor on February 25 but did not stop.

The van’s owner was in the vehicle at the time and gave chase but lost Yeung in traffic.

In April officers who had been given his registration number spotted Yeung’s Ford Focus and arrested him.

Yeung asked the magistrates to give him a straight ban as points on his licence would have meant him having to retake all his driving tests.

He said he needs his car to drive everyday from Newcastle to several Chinese Restaurants he is involved with in the Spennymoor area.

He was also ordered to pay £325 in fines and costs.
