MODEL construction enthusiasts from around the region gathered for an exhibition this weekend.
The North-East Meccano Society held its main annual display in St Cuthbert’s Church Centre, in Darlington, yesterday.
The exhibition featured working Meccano model cranes, trains and trams.
John Herdman, the society’s exhibitions secretary, said: “Meccano doesn’t have a huge following, in the way that model railway exhibitions do, but there are always a lot of interested people come along to our events.”
The society, which has about 80 members, puts on exhibitions for other organisations, such as Beamish Museum and Locomotion: the National Railway Museum, in Shildon.
Saturday’s event was the club’s main annual exhibition.
Forthcoming events include an exhibition aimed at children, at Monkwearmouth Station Museum, in Sunderland, on Thursday (November 1).
The free event, which runs from 11am to 3pm, includes models such as a Dalek, London buses and model fairground rides.
