A THIEF who suffered major burns when he cut through live electric cable has been re-sentenced and given a fortnight-long curfew after he failed to turn up for his probation appointments.

John Young, 33, spent nine days in an induced coma after breaking into Normanby Hall, a listed building in Middlesbrough, and cutting into the cables.

He was given a two year supervision order and a 26-week night-time curfew after being sentenced for the offence in October last year.

Young, of Queen Street, Lazenby, east Cleveland, returned to Teesside Crown Court after missing two probation appointments on September 20 and 24 this year.

He had also in June been given a six month conditional discharge by another court for being drunk and disorderly.

His barrister Graham Brown said he had been drug free for the past two years. He also said the breaches for which he was being sentenced were at the lowest level.

Judge Peter Bowers gave Young a fortnight-long curfew betweem 6pm and 6am and said he would continue to serve the two year order he had previously been given.

The judge said the defendant would be jailed if he had to deal with him again.
