A NEWSPAPER girl who has never missed a day’s delivery in six years has won a national award for her efforts.

Hannah Collier, 17, from Blackhill, in Consett, County Durham was named news deliverer of the year at the National Federation of Retail Newsagents Awards ceremony, which was held in London on Tuesday night.

The Gateshead College student has worked her paper round for Brian and Joan Bell, at B&J Retail, in Blackhill, for six year and was shortlisted in recognition of her professionalism and commitment. Hannah has never missed a day’s work, except for holidays, always watches out for her elderly customers while out on her rounds and makes little gifts for them at Easter and Christmas.

Several customers nominated Hannah for the award, including residents at a local care home who said she brightened their day.

- The Northern Echo won the Regional Newspaper Excellence award at the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) Awards for its close co-operation with the organisation and its members.

The NFRN said: "The Northern Echo is a great example of a publication working in close cooperation with the NFRN on both building sales through promotions and constructively addressing members' issues and concerns.”

Paul Ketley, newspaper sales manager for The Northern Echo, said: “We have always worked closely with the NFRN. Their members are at the forefront of our operation, getting the newspaper into the hands and through the letterboxes of our readers. To me, this recognition is jointly deserved as both parties work hard together.”
