A MAN appeared at court today (Wednesday, October 24) charged with possessing offensive weapons, including stun guns disguised as mobile phones and knuckle dusters.
Robert Downes, of Eden Close, Coundon, near Bishop Auckland, faces two charges of possessing a stun gun disguised as a mobile phone and two charges of possessing a stun gun disguised as a knuckle duster.
He is also accused of possessing a baton stun gun capable of discharging a noxious gas.
All of the offences are alleged to have occurred in Newton Aycliffe on August 3. Magistrates at Newton Aycliffe committed the case to Durham Crown Court, where Mr Downes will appear on November 7.
The 61-year-old, who did not enter a plea, was granted unconditional bail.
