A GIANT red kite was spotted at the Bowes Museum today (Tuesday).
As part of a Heritage Lottery funded project, Friends of Red Kites (FoRK) has created the largest kite mosaic in the world from 150 polystyrene tiles.
With a 22.5-metre wingspan and measuring 10.5 metres from beak to tail, the mosaic is being constructed and photographed at various iconic locations around the North-East.
As well as the Bowes Museum, it is visiting places such as Durham Cathedral, Hadrian's Wall and the National Glass Centre, in Sunderland.
Officials from FoRK say the project aims to help people learn more about their natural heritage.
Images from the giant kite's tour of the region will form an exhibition which will tour community venues.
