DOZENS of residents in rural County Durham have been left without telephone and internet connections after two lengths of BT cable were stolen.
One cable, 151 metres long, was taken from just outside Cockfield, while a second length of cable, 134m, was taken from down the hill towards Butterknowle.
A spokesman for Bishop Auckland Police said the thefts happened between 12.30am and 9am today (Tuesday, October 23).
“The cable is standard gauge telephone cable and the theft has affected approximately 100 houses which are all currently without a landline and internet in the Butterknowle South Side area.”
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 and ask for PC Andrew Denham. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
