A MAN who made his name by being the first person in the North East of England to be handed an ASBO, has been jailed for calling police in a bomb-scare hoax - and landed his 116th conviction.

Dexter Ferguson called police to tell them there was a bomb on a Stagecoach bus travelling from Durham to Sunderland on October 7.

Sunderland Crown Court heard that officers responded but soon realised it was a hoax after hearing Ferguson's infamous voice on a recording of the telephone conversation.

Ferguson, from Hendon, Sunderland, was jailed for eight days for communicating false information.

Stagecoach declined to comment.

His latest conviction joins a long list of previous offences Ferguson has compiled - just weeks after he was handed a life-time ASBO, which sets out strict rules on how he must live.

Ferguson was the first person in the North East to receive an anti-social behaviour order in 1999, and he has been convicted 116 times.

He has appeared in court each year for the past 20 years, and has spent time in prison for repeated drunken thuggery and thefts.
