A NORTH-East teenager is to join television presenter Matt Baker in raising money for BBC Children in Need.

Darren Tambin, from Coxhoe, County Durham, and five youngsters from around the country will team up with The One Show host, whose parents farm near Lanchester, for a Rickshaw Challenge.

Last year, Mr Baker pedalled a rickshaw 480 miles from Edinburgh to London in eight days for the charity.

This year, the six-strong Team Rickshaw will, between them, pedal 411 miles from Llandundo, in north Wales, to London, while Baker cycles alongside offering advice and support.

Darren, 17, has had glaucoma since birth and is registered as partially sighted. His mother, father, brother and sister are all registered blind.

Mr Baker said: “The Rickshaw Challenge is one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever taken on.

“These youngsters are going to have their work cut out for them. We need to get behind them as they strive to raise as much money as possible for BBC Children in Need.”

The challenge will run from Friday, November 9, to Friday, November 16, ending at Television Centre for The One Show’s BBC Children in Need special.
