DARBY Mary Joan (nee Atkin) Of Wheatley Hill, aged 87 years, peacefully at home on 5th February 2024, surrounded by her loving family after an illness bravely fought with courage and dignity. Beloved wife of Richard, and a much loved mam of Gerard, Paul, Joanne and the late Susan, also dearly loved mother in law, gran and great-gran, sister, auntie and friend to many. Requiem Mass to take place at Sacred Heart and English Martyrs RC Church Thornley on Thursday 22nd February at 12.30pm followed by committal at Durham Crematorium. Family flowers only and donations in lieu if desired may be given at church for the MND Association, Macmillan and Marie Curie Nurses. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Macmillan, Marie Curie and District Nurses for the care given to Joan.
