BOWES Peter Lonsdale Suddenly at home, on October 12, aged 89 years. Devoted husband to Jean, dearly loved dad of Susan and Carol, highly respected father-in-law to Tim and Jonny and a treasured "Big Granda" of Jenny and James. Private cremation. Friends please meet for a Thanksgiving Service at Stanhope Methodist Chapel on Friday October 27 at 1.30 p.m. No flowers. Donations for The Alzheimers Society and Stanhope Methodist Chapel.Tributes

Peter Bowes was a great man, a fervent Weardalian with a passion for the Durham Dales and people. From generations of children at Wolsingham School who were inspired to learn more, like me, through running a Saturday club for local teenagers, founding the Weardale Gazette so we knew what was happening in the dale, finding time to write successful books on local history as well as being a faithful member and local preacher of the Methodist Church - we have cause to be grateful for all that he achieved and did for others.
