SEDGWICK Ernest As the proverb says..... 'Old soldiers never die, they simply fade away'. Ernie sadly passed away on Saturday 18th February 2023, aged 101. He will be missed by all the family and friends. Ernie was a veteran of WW2 (Dunkirk, Arnhem Normandy) and Suez, having seen action including narrowly escaping from the Dunkirk beaches. He was once asked if he had seen the film "Dunkirk" and "A Bridge Too Far", and he simply answered that "he has spent over 80 years trying to forget those days but remember his friends in arms". Funeral will be 11:00 am Monday 13th March at Darlington Crematorium (West Cemetery Chapel). Family flowers only please, donations in lieu direct to "Help For Heroes".
