DEVANNEY Joseph (MBE) (formerly of Sedgefield) Joseph, a Korean war veteran, died suddenly on December 18th, 2022, aged 89 years, in the arms of his devoted partner Margaret. A much loved dad, grandad, great-grandad and stepdad. Will friends please meet for funeral service at Wear Valley Crematorium, Coundon, on Tuesday 17th January at 11.30am. Family flowers only please. Donations in lieu, if so desired, for The Viking Boat Co., a charity that helps veterans with PTSD.

I can only reiterate what others have already said - Joe was a very kind man. I stayed with him for a holiday, and he opened his world of wonders to me (antiques, collections, music and wildlife walks. He talked about politics which I knew little about at that time, but I could feel the passion of conviction in his voice - Joe was a very interesting soul to be with. Rest in Peace, Uncle Joe & God bless you and all your family. Love from all the Grimes / Robson family side of your life with Kathleen xxx

Sad news indeed, I haven’t seen Joe for years but when I was a young lad Joe showed me much kindness and for that I will be ever grateful. RIP Joe.
