SINCE the dawn of the railways, the coast has been a popular destination with workers from the cities.
Before the railway station was built in the town, Redcar’s main industry was fishing.
With the advent of the railway, the town began to boom, fuelled soon after by the discovery of iron ore in the area.
By the time the town’s racecourse was built, its reputation was sealed as the place to go on holiday.
