MY ‘FRIEND’
I think he’s rather horrid, I was told he
was my friend.
But the only time he’s happy is when I
spend and spend
He knows my strengths and
weaknesses, he knows that when I’m
blue
That the only thing to cheer me up is to
go buy something new.
He will whisper: “You deserve it; you
share most what you earn,
Go on now, have a spending spree, it
really is your turn”
So like Eve in the garden with the
serpent long ago
He leads me to temptation and aspending
I will go.
But when my statement comes along, I
think what a fool you are,
The dress was quite a bargain, but look
at the APR.
Oh how I really hate him, I have murder
on my mind
I take up the kitchen scissors
No more he’ll be unkind
I stab him through the middle, I attack
from end to end.
Then with delight, I throw him in the
bin…
Goodbye, my plastic friend.

PREMATURE AUTUMN
September, how disappointing!
Where’s the Indian summer this year?
Do we have to go to India
And bring it here?
We’ve had lots of rain,
And gale force wind,
We’ve had cold days
We just can’t win.
We need some heating in the house
And the bed asks for an extra
Blanket at night,
We feel like the winter
Is trying to get here
Even before the autumn
It just isn’t right!
Our front lawn
Is covered with leaves,
They’re falling early this year.
It seems more like November
Than September.
Do we dare hope
For a mild, pleasant October?
I am not kidding, I am not drunk,
I am quite sober.
