I READ with great interest about Durham County Council’s efforts to save HMS Bulwark and HMS Albion (Echo, Feb 23). I served onboard HMS Bulwark from 1972 to 1974 and had the time of my life.

We live in times when there are more admirals than ships, and yet these fine ships look likely to go.

The memories could live on with some form of reunion to be held at Durham every once in a while for those who have served on board.

I’m sure there would be great interest in this from around the North-East.

I would like to thank Councillor Simon Henig for his support.
