How could we live with no Northern Echo?
The first thing we see as we come down the stairs
The headlines, the small print all perused over breakfast
While men read the back page, for them sports comes first.
News and reviews, letter and comments
“Hear All Sides” arguments rage back and forth
World news and local and always the telly
Church news and poems and editor’s columns.
“On this Day” memoirs of history to remind us
Political comments, events done for charity
Tragedies or celebrations, all are reported
Births, Deaths and Marriages brought to attention.
News from the villages, news from the cities
All things large and small which concern us
So well done Northern Echo, to all who compose it
Your readers love it, keep up the good work.
Mrs D Ridley, Frosterley
