We’re away to Hyde on Saturday, and a chance to progress to the second round of the FA Trophy.
We’ll give them plenty of respect because they play in a league that is two above us, but we’re not worried about them. We’re going there full of confidence after beating Brighouse 4-1 the other night.
It was a bit windy though on Tuesday. We didn’t play well in the first half, but that was because the wind was causing chaos, and it was only when we played against it in the second half that we managed to take control of the game. The ball held up a lot better, and that enabled us to get some rhythm going. The wind was quite strong down the bottom left hand corner of the Brewery Field, no wonder there were so many fans taking shelter behind the fence!
I think going in at half time 1-0 down wasn’t a bad score, because we knew that we would get at Brighouse in the second. John McReady had a great game, he set up three goals from his runs down the right and now we’re starting to see how good a player he is. He’s overcome the injuries that he had, and he’s pushing for a regular starting place.
Our new signing Ian Ward is a DJ in his spare time away from football, and so he’s brought in some music that we can play before and after matches. Not quite headbanging or punk rock stuff, but it gets you going a little bit. One of our lads was a bit shocked when he learned that the Kaiser Chiefs is quite a famous rock band from Leeds, and not a South African football team!
I’m waiting to see if the gaffer dances after a game sometime, not that he knows much about modern music, mind. He once did a robot, the one that Peter Crouch does. We’re kind of hoping he’ll do something by Diversity sometime. Gav (the assistant manager) might even join in.
I’m seeing Busted [Darlington’s Ian Watson] soon at the gym I run in Durham. I think I’ll challenge him to some sort of Superstars competition! I know he’s a fit lad, I’ve known him for years, so we’ll see how he does on the treadmill and stuff like that. I might even speed the treadmill up while he’s on it.
