I’ve been asked to write a column for The Northern Echo, I'm basically looking at it like a very long tweet each week so hopefully it won’t bore you too much.
Each week I will be talking about the weekend football and anything else that might be topic of conversation.
I’ll start off by talking a little how I’ve settled in at Darlington since signing from Blyth Spartans a few weeks back. Everyone at the club has made me more than welcome, I knew most of the lads before signing and they have all been great since I joined.
I car-school with Terry Galbraith, Graeme Armstrong and Chris Hunter. Tez likes to read books and do crosswords on the way to games, he insists on So Solid Crew in the car which isn’t my sort of thing, but as I’m the new guy I have to stay with their decisions at the moment.
There are some real characters and it’s a pleasure to be a part of such a good changing room. The management have been brilliant with me and their level of knowledge reflects where they’ve played during their careers, also the supporters have all been brilliant and made me feel very wanted and welcome.
It’s been really easy to settle in and I’m enjoying my football more than ever. There’s a massive sense of everyone at the club pulling in the same direction, which you sometimes don’t get at other clubs. I look forward to the battering I may take in the changing room for this.
Saturday’s game against Clitheroe (a 1-1 draw) was the first time I’ve experienced dropping points at the club. We’ve been on a great run which started before I joined. Clitheroe worked really hard and maybe deserved a point from the game, I feel we did enough to win and the manner in which we conceded so late on was disappointing, especially with them being down to ten men.
A lot in football is how you react after such things; it will be a good test of our character with another hard game Saturday against Lancaster City and a tough run through Christmas.
Just to finish off, I’d like to wish my old club Blyth Spartans all the very best in their FA Cup tie against Hartlepool United a week on Friday. I’ve got some really close friends there and it will be good to watch them live on TV, but I’ll talk a little more about their game next week.
