If you want to try some of this wonderful local food, the Taste Cumbria Food Festival, is held in Cockermouth at the end of the month, from September 29 to 30, where more than 100 of Cumbria’s best producers, hoteliers and restaurateurs will be serving up tasty treats.
The festival line-up includes Saturday Kitchen chef James Martin, and Sunday Brunch star Simon Rimmer in the festival cookery theatre. Also attending will be award-winning Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan, of L’Enclume, hot from his success on the BBC’s Great British Menu. He will be cooking at the festival’s first pop-up restaurant. Observer food critic and jazz musician Jay Rayner will also be bringing a band of the country’s top musicians to perform food-inspired jazz standards to make the weekend swing.
