He may be most known for his sporting skills than his fashion credentials, but former England cricket captain Freddie Flintoff is already on to his second collection of wardrobe staples

FOLLOWING the successful launch of his fashion range earlier in the year, Freddie Flintoff’s back with everything British blokes could possibly need for the colder months. He reveals what to expect from his latest collection, in collaboration with Jacamo.

Who is the new range aimed at?

It’s aimed at every type of guy really, whatever their shape or size. There’s something there most blokes will like, whether it’s because they like the style, size or the price.

What makes it unique?

I think it reflects my taste and in that way it feels very personal and unique, so I hope people like it as much as I do.

The key pieces are jeans (£40), boots (£60), a checked shirt (£35), a military shirt (£35) and polo shirts (£25). Basically, it’s got all the everyday things you’d need. Then you’ve got smarter stuff like suits (£110) and a tweed jacket (£90). Together, they work really well.

How does your own style influence the collection?

The whole collection is based on creating things I can wear. So for me, if I’m going out with my mates it’s probably one of the T-shirts or polo shirts with jeans, then for smarter occasions like going to the races, it’s a tweed jacket or suit. It’s pretty much everything I could want in my wardrobe.

Why do you enjoy working with Jacamo?

The size and shape of the clothes are a good fit.

I’m 6ft 4in, so they’re for people in the same boat as me when it comes to choosing clothes.

Some shops can be quite intimidating, so this is an easier way to get the things I like without all that fuss. It’s good value as well and, at the moment, I think that’s more important than ever.

How does the collaboration work in practice? What’s your role?

I get to bring my ideas to the table and work with all these amazing people to make them a reality.

I wanted the clothes to be practical and ontrend rather than high fashion. So for this collection, we sat down and chatted about the kind of stuff I like and discussed what I would need from a working wardrobe.

I brought along a few of my own items that I liked and I played a role in selecting fabrics.

I had a lot of great help, a lot of people making sure everything was the right fit and quality.

Everyone is on a budget these days and I was very aware of that too. People can’t afford to buy things that are just seasonal – that you’re going to wear for a few months and then they’re “out”. And I think we managed to create something that was longer lasting, a set of clothes to set you up and see you through, so products that are good value.

It’s not about high fashion, it’s about wearable fashion.

How would you describe your own style?

My personal style is smart, casual and comfortable.

All of the clothes in the collection are things I feel comfortable in. There’s nothing worse than feeling self-conscious about what you’re wearing.

How has it changed over the years?

I take more of an interest in fashion now than I used to. It used to be all about sportswear for me and as my career has moved forward, I like to think my wardrobe has too.

I used to be told what I was wearing – on tour it’s a tracksuit or whatever – now I actually get to dress myself and I enjoy choosing what to wear.
