BY analysing the past four years’ worth of inquiry data, the Transform Cosmetic Surgery group has created a Brits, Boobs and Botox map, revealing the most popular procedure inquiries across different areas of the UK. And it seems that women in the North-East are leading from the front.

Boob jobs accounted for nearly a third of all inquiries for Newcastle and a whopping 39.2 per cent of inquiries from Sunderland. A further 13.55 per cent of all inquiries for the Northern cities were attributed to liposuction and nose jobs with tummy tucks, Botox and cosmetic dental work all in the top ten most popular procedures.

The data has highlighted a number of interesting trends and allowed Transform to discover whether certain social factors have a direct correlation with the inquiries they receive. For example, a huge spike in inquiries for hair transplants can be seen in 2011 following Wayne Rooney’s infamous transplant, the data showing a year-on-year increase of 88 per cent with Wolverhampton being the hair transplant capital.

“We’ve been helping patients for 40 years – and in that time there’s been a massive change in what they inquire about,” says Patricia Dunion, Transform chief operating officer. “We’ve had 350,000 inquiries from all over the country in the past four years alone and the trends are an insight into what influences have been at play.

“We’d never have guessed the Rooney effect would generate 5,500 inquiries for hair transplants – or that curvaceous bottoms would be all the rage in the Noughties. Nor could we anticipate that since the phrase ‘man boobs’ was coined, it would become the area of greatest concern for men. It also looks as though Botox is something that’s misunderstood and is something people talk about much more than they have.”
