LAST weekend’s BBC Radio 2 Live in Hyde Park broadcast introduced the UK to an award- winning trio, The Band Perry, who are also touring in November, having had to reschedule dates booked in July.
Kimberley Perry and brothers Reid and Neil were spotted by Garth Brooks’ manager Bob Doyle in 2008 who arranged for them to record and subsequently sent the recordings to the newly-established Republic Nashville label. The band signed to the label in 2009 and released the debut single Hip To My Heart which got into the country charts at number 20. The next single, If I Die Young, went to number one in 2010 and also a number 14 in the Billboard Hot 100. A second number one came with All Your Life and their current single, Postcard From Paris, peaked at number six.
Country music awards include: Top New Vocal Duo and Top New Artist from the Academy of Country Music and New Artist of the Year, Single Of The Year and Song Of The Year (If I Die Young) from the Country Music Association. Not bad for an outfit where Kimberley is the eldest at 24.
The band’s debut self-titled album is out and they visit Glasgow, Manchester and London in November.
