A THEATRE has launched its autumn programme with a ceremony to thank its corporate sponsors.
The Civic Theatre, in Darlington, will welcome a host of household names in the coming months, before ending the year with its annual pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, which will feature Linda Lusardi.
Representatives from organisations including The Northern Echo, JJ Blair and Sons Market Gardeners, TFM Radio, Boyes and Co, Bussey and Armstrong and Waterstones gathered at the theatre yesterday to view its newly refurbished courtyard and hear about the autumn line-up.
Among the shows and actors on offer are Marti Pellow in a production of the West End favourite Blood Brothers; Keith Jack in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat; and Jack Ellis, Chris Ellison and Paula Wilcox in Great Expectations.
A spokeswoman said: “We are very grateful for the continued support of our corporate partners who are committed to ensuring the successful future of this wonderful venue.”
The Civic Theatre is Grade II listed and was built in 1907 as the New Hippodrome and Palace of Varieties.
Over the years it has attracted many famous names, including Anna Pavlova, Tommy Cooper, Dame Margot Fonteyn, Rex Harrison, Dame Vera Lynn and Mickey Rooney.
