MY son never knew the original Star Wars - George Lucas’ classic sci-fi movie set in a galaxy far, far away.

His introduction to the genre came in animated form via the award-winning director’s cartoon series.

Elegantly crafted and disitinctive in their make up, The Clone Wars quickly became a must-see programme on our TV, to the extent that I was often relegated to the smaller set in the back room.

Though initially sceptical about just how they might compare to the real action franchise, once I had witnessed the series for myself, however, I realised that they offered just as much enjoyment for me as they did for him.

This is not Star Wars-lite. The stories and characters have depth and there is great attention to detail, making them ideal family viewing.

This latest offering consists of all 22 Season Three Episodes, runs to more than 500 minutes and features all of the main characters.

As the dark side grows ever stronger, the Jedi Knights are pushed to breaking and alliances are severely tested. Viewers will learn about the nature of the Force itself and learn secrets about the destiny of the so-called ‘Chosen One’ along the way.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (The Complete Season Three) is out now on Blu-Ray and DVD from Lucasfilm Ltd and Warner Home Video.
