MAMMA Mia. Never mind who’s the daddy, who’s the mummy in Coronation Street (ITV1)? One resident reveals that she is, in fact, the mother of a long-time Weatherfield resident.

Thankfully, Roy Cropper isn’t named as the love child of Ken and Rita. No, the recipient of a new mother is Leanne, recently saved from the clutches of robbers in the betting shop by newcomer Stella. Since she arrived behind the bar, the Rovers is getting more like the Walford’s Queen Vic – nothing but trouble, what with Ken accosted by a stripper and an almighty fight breaking out.

The shock for Leanne is being told that Stella is her mother, whom she hasn’t seen since she was a child. Now we know that Stella had an ulterior motive for tottering down the cobbles. She wanted to be near Leanne and gets her wish when the grateful girl invites her to dinner as a thank you for saving her from baseball bat-wielding robbers.

Most people would bring the host a present, a bottle of wine or some flowers.

But Stella brings news that Leanne should call her mother.

Some mothers do ‘ave ‘em. And Sinder- Ella Hart in Emmerdale (ITV1) is having the hired help, namely toyboy Adam. The fact that he’s going out with her daughter Mia is a slight complication.

Now Mia’s mamma gets caught out by partner Declan and he’s not happy.

He throws her out of the house.

When she goes back to talk to her daughter (or perhaps compare notes about Adam’s bedroom prowess), Declan throws her out again. He wants to protect his daughter and stop her finding out that her mother has been bonking her boyfriend.

Over in Walford, things aren’t going well for Michael Moon since the arrival of the father-he-doesn’t-like, Steady Eddie, in EastEnders (BBC1). Michael wants to swap him for a different father.

The distressed chap turns to Ronnie – you know, the baby swap mother – for help. He reckons she’ll be good to talk too because she had trouble with her own father, Evil Archie.

A spot of sleepwalking brings Michael to Ronnie. They talk. Later he returns to her room and, according to CCTV, stares at her bare legs. Then he lies down next to her and goes to sleep.

It’s all very bizarre.

This is not what Jack expects, or indeed wants to see, the next morning.

Michael claims he was sleepwalking but, even in Soapland’s twisted romantic history, that’s a pretty outlandish excuse.

At least, Surely Shirley makes no bones about her intentions. She wants to get rid of recovering drug addict Raine Cross because her partner Fill the Fug is her support group partner. She intends to rain on Rainie’s parade by spiking her drink with vodka to make Fill fink she’s fallen off the wagon.
