OF course we don’t need another vampire movie but this low budget entry in the genre does at least make an effort to be something harder and bloodier than Twilight soft-core horror.

It’s set in a post-apocalypse Mad Max style future where a virus has turned most of the survivors into blood-crazy vampires. A few pockets of human existence remain, but they’re under constant threat from the packs of vampires roaming the land in search of passing snacks.

Enter vampire slayer Mister (Nick Damici) who’s made it his job in life to stake the fanged fiends through the heart. He’s joined on his road trip by young Martin (Connor Paolo).

Survival means dodging The Brotherhood, the organised cult who like a spot of torture and murder.

Mister and Martin rescue a couple from their bloody clutches – a pregnant girl (Danielle Harris) and a nun (Kelly McGillis – yes, the Kelly McGillis from Top Gun and The Accused, although I didn’t recognise her).

Inevitably, it’s all a bit episodic, but the action, although unrelentingly brutal, packs a wallop and the characters have a bit more depth than usual in this sort of thing.
