ANSWER me this. Can America’s highest paid TV actor really sing convincingly about the blues? There is no doubting that comedian, turned serious actor, turned musician, Hugh Laurie can play the blues.

The songs on the album have a distinctly New Orleans feel to them, and were originally recorded by legends such as Leadbelly, Robert Johnson and Ray Charles.

Laurie adopts his now familiar US accent to deliver the tunes, an accent that no doubt comes very easily to him after years of performing in the hit show, House.

There is indeed pleasure to be had from listening to it, but because it is largely very traditional, I didn’t find myself wanting to listen through it again and again, rather waiting until I was back in the mood.
