IF you saw the film Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? you may not have realised that apart from the brilliance of the story, you were listening to some great country music.
Vocalist Dan Tyminski and Alison Krauss contributed multiple tracks to the soundtrack, including I’ll Fly Away, along with Gillian Welch, and Down To The River To Pray.
It was also Tyminski’s vocals that you would hear on I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow, “sung” in the film by George Clooney.
It is not the first time of course that Krauss and Tyminski have teamed together – for the past 20 years, he has been a member of her band, Union Station.
If you loved the music from the film then you can continue your enjoyment by listening to the latest release from Alison Krauss called Paper Airplane.
It’s modern bluegrass at its best, with Krauss in fine, gentle vocal form on this her 14th release, albeit her first release with Union Station since the “Lonely Runs Both Ways” album in 2004.
The album includes a couple of cover versions of Jackson Browne’s My Opening Farewell and Richard Thompson’s Dimming Of the Day.
Whether you’re a bluegrass fan or just like great music, Paper Airplane will certainly be a bonus to add to your collection.
