IN Nick Hornby’s recent novel Juliet, Naked, the plot follows a reclusive rock star who took a step back from the spotlight and failed to record anything for 20 years.
He was thrust back in the limelight, however, when his former record company rereleased his masterpiece album in demo form, stripped down of any production – which brings us to The Waterboys.
It is as if life is imitating art because In A Special Place reveals the piano demos for Scottish band’s 1985 classic album, This is The Sea.
The album has 15 songs stripped down, naked and with no production – just Mike Scott, his piano and his evocative vocal arrangement. It’s as good if not better than the original.
