REVIEWS: Schubert Octet (Deux Elles DXL1145) The Fibonacci Sequence perform the sublime Octet in F. The largest scale of his chamber works ,scored for woodwinds and strings, is conveyed with zest.
Antoine Selosse: La Chasse Royale (DXL1143) A newly-discovered manuscript found at a second-hand bookshop was revealed to contain music attributed to Selosse. Keyboard virtuoiso Terence Charlton invests the music with a spirited freshness. Enjoyable listening.
Honegger: Complete Violin Sonatas (Naxos 8.572192) Violinist Laurence Kayaleh and pianist Paul Stuart perform Arthur Honegger’s violin sonatas. These rarely recorded works reveal the composer’s mastery of intimate forms.
Oort Cloud: Jexper Holman (Dacapo 8.226562} Scored for soprano saxophone, accordion and electronics, this album comes from the Danish composer Jexper Holmen’s work with Huddersfield Comtemporary Music Festival.
The music “inspired by the cloud of comets surrounding the solar system” has a relentless slowness and serenity. Pleasurable listening.
