JANICE Battersby is off on holiday with her new bloke Gaz. At least that’s the plan. But she goes and spoils it by knocking back the hard stuff faster than the treasury can put up the tax on booze.
As a result Janice is bumped off the flight for being drunk. Or perhaps she didn’t take kindly to be charged excess baggage for the amount of alcohol she’s consumed.
Whatever the reason, she finds herself back in Coronation Street (ITV1) just hours after leaving home. There’s a nasty surprise waiting back at her flat – an intruder.
Janice Battersby becomes Janice Battered- sby when she disturbs his spot of breaking and entering. He pushes her to the floor and does a runner.
Soon news of the failed robbery is reverberating around the cobbles, but the reason for the crime is a Gray area. As in Chris Gray, the estranged husband of Cheryl who doesn’t like the fact that she’s going out with cabby Lloyd. He’s not saying, “carry on cabby” but hatching schemes to get back at Lloyd. In his book, nothing is fair in love and war.
Robbing Janice, it would seem, is all part of a devious plan to... well, that would be telling. Not a word either about Eileen Grimshaw’s con trick, which sees her swindling £10,000 out of her ex, Owen Turner.
She’s is a good position to grab some money as she’s been doing his books (and no that’s not a euphemism for hanky panky) and knows exactly how to extract cash from his accounts. Eileen needs the money to pay for expensive roof repairs but is scared (a) because she’s broken the law and (b) Owen will go bonkers if he discovers the fraud.
Over in Walford, Carol’s secret is out in EastEnders (BBC1). She finally admits that she’s been having a thing (quite a few things, actually) with younger man Connor, but not before she’s given him the brush off which pushes him back into the arms (and legs) of young Whitney.
Worst of all, Carol’s daughter Beeanchor isn’t going to react well when she finds out what – and who – her mother has been up to. Bee-have Bee-anchor or you’ll be fleeing as fast as Janice’s intruder.
Handy Andy is still the prime suspect in the Dales blaze case in Emmerdale (ITV1). After all, he did start a previous fire in the barn without checking first that his stepmother and her toy boy lover weren’t rolling in the hay. Things got pretty hot for them – and for Andy.
Now he’s a suspect in another fire and the whispers grow louder when he attends the funeral of the first victim after being quizzed by the cops.
Cain Dingle is used to being on the wrong arm of the law, but he’s used to having fiancee Charity Tate helping him.
Now she’s switched side and gone into business with Jai and Cain isn’t able to deal with it. It could spell the end of one of Soapland’s most devious couples.
