Goo Goo Dolls: Notbroken (Warner Bros)
After a slow, but impassioned build-up, this becomes the kind of song that you could see having anthemic status bestowed upon it.
The song is written in the form of a letter from a soldier injured in Iraq to his family back home and certainly strikes a chord.
Dutch Uncles - Fragrant (memphis industries)
Were I 20 years younger and able to gain entry to nightclubs unaccosted rather than looking like some sad bloke that still lives with his mum, this is the kind of song you’d probably find me bopping my head off to. Unashamedly poppy in its construction, it cries out for you to get off your feet and just pogo around the room.
The Phoenix Foundation: Pot (memphis industries)
Overtones of Fleet Foxes came flooding in when listening to this song from the New Zealand sextet.
It’s more the style of the vocals than anything else, with several voices contributing at once, as their sound becomes altogether more plugged in as it progresses. The album, Buffalo, is due for release in the new year.
