THE Mariah Mundi author, a retired Northallerton policeman and a former North Yorkshire vicar, returns with a dark tale of fantasy and intrigue.
Red Eye is the first of the Vampyre Labyrinth series and focuses on our hero, 15-year-old Jago Harker, during the Blitz.
Left to fend for himself after the death of his mother, Jago is packed off to the North on the night train from London. Arriving in Whitby, knowing not a soul, the teenager is sent to live at an orphanage.
Unsure and afraid, Jago meets the other children and is befriended by disfigured girl, Biatra, who helps him settle in. As he finds his bearings he hears stories of disappearances, night creatures, murders and centuries-old curses.
The duo soon form an unlikely bond and become deeply involved in a good-versus-evil battle which has them both fighting for their lives against a mysterious and terrifying force.
A gripping read from the first page, it will appeal to teens and adults alike.
