HIGHLY-ACCLAIMED Texas-based singersongwriter, producer and musician Gurf Morlix is an extraordinary talent, which he underlined when he played the Cluny.
Morlix, armed with his acoustic guitar that he plays alongside his amplified bass footboard, eased through songs off his current album, Last Exit Happyland, and choice material from Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Blind Willie Johnson and material by his late friend, Blaze Foley.
Of the numerous highlights, his performance of the incessant One More Second, perfectly balanced Walkin’ To New Orleans and reflective ode Voice Of Midnight were high on the list.
Though his music isn’t on occasions particularly sensitive, he showed up well as he pulled out the surprising package of the old drinking song, The Parting Glass.
