"MY Dad became alarmed that I was so steeped in the rock and pop music of my time that I did not understand the vital importance of the songs that were my musical genealogy. He spent the afternoon making a list of songs for me. He called the lists 100 Essential Country Songs.

I have held on to the list for 35 years.”

So says Johnny Cash’s daughter, Rosanne who has worked on her own interpretation of some of the 100 songs.

Guests Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy and Rufus Wainwright join her on four of the tracks. Miss The Mississippi and You, Sea of Heartbreak, Long Black Veil, Heartaches By The Number, Take These Chains and Moving On are likely to assure her of chart success. But I tend to think that she could have interpreted Sea Of Heartbreak without the intervention of Springsteen. With only 12 songs featured from that list, I’m sure many can’t wait for the other 88 to arrive.
