CANADIAN director Atom Egoyan remakes a 2003 French drama Nathalie with enjoyable if melodramatic results.

Having a class act like Julianne Moore as your star is a wise move considering the implausibility of the plot. She’s Catherine, a doctor whose nagging suspicion that husband David (Liam Neeson) is cheating on her is given credence by the picture of him cuddling up to another woman she finds on his mobile phone.

She enlists the help of a prostitute, Chloe (Seyfried, from Mamma Mia) and pays her to report back on David’s reaction to her overtures. Chloe does her duty, reporting back in intimate detail about her assignations with the dallying David. But she has ulterior motives which could involve Catherine’s young son (Max Thierot) or even Catherine herself.

This overheated story of love and lust works because of the top notch class but eventually degenerates into a Seventies soft porn drama with much nudity and heavy breathing. Tosh but enjoyable tosh.
