THIS show combines a classic George Gershwin score with a sharp and witty fresh, new script.
The story tells of Bobby Child, a weak and ineffective banker from New York who is only interested in dancing his troubles away and who dreams of a life in the theatre.
After being sent to Deadrock, Nevada (“the armpit of the American West”) Bobby falls for feisty Polly, the owner of the town’s theatre, which he’s been sent to close.
Through farcical circumstances and a little help from his friends, Bobby does his best to dance away, not only his own troubles, but those of the whole town.
The brassy big band sound of Gershwin’s score gets the show off with a swing and the tricky arrangements are well handled by musical director Andrew Clarence.
Classic numbers such as Can’t Take That Away From Me and Someone To Watch Over Me were well delivered by the show’s leads, Stephen Mason and Nathalie Gilbert.
The choreography by Sandra Laidler is lively and keeps the show well paced.
Subtle direction from Stephen Smith and a strong supporting cast, including Ian Cairns, Sarah Orton and James Mitcheson, ensures that the audience is swept along in a well-paced and fun show – Who Could Ask for Anything More?
