NICE body, shame about the movie. It fails to live up to any part of its billing as “a sexy horror film with a wicked sense of humour”, being neither very funny or very horrific.

This is all the more surprising as the script comes from Diablo Cody, whose debut screenplay Juno was one of last year’s most refreshing movies and won her an Oscar.

Being amusing while being gruesome is fiendishly difficult and director Karyn Kusama (who made Girlfight and the flop Aeon Flux) fails to find a way of combining the two.

Transformers star Megan Fox plays Devil’s Kettle high school student Jennifer, transformed from gorgeous and desirable into really evil after being possessed by a hungry demon. She has an insatiable appetite, seeing the guys who lust after her as fast food snacks.

Her best friend Needy (Amanda Seyfried, last seen getting married in Mamma Mia) steps out of the curvy shadow of Jennifer to protect the town’s young men, including her boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons).

It’s a battle that should be more exciting than it is in this muddled mess of a movie. Maybe Cody wants to use the horror genre to say something about the lives of hormonal adolescents. If so, she needs more than a satanic rock band and a catfight between best friends to make it work. Only for those who just want to gawp at Megan Fox’s admittedly watchable body.
