AFTER Michael Jackson’s death earlier this year it was only a matter of time before a series of albums would be released, celebrating his landmark career. Released alongside Jackson’s album This Is It, this is an exciting concept – fresh versions of classic songs from Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5, mixed by some of New York’s hottest producers. However, many of the tracks are disappointing, being too close to the originals.
On the plus side, the 18 songs which make up the album are not ones that are heard on a regular basis with the exception on ABC and I Want You Back. The best is the second of the three I Want You Back versions, remixed by Kenny Hayes’ Sunshine Funk. The infamous tune is transformed into a relaxing track which is worth a listen.
