LIKE many, I became a fan of Simon Amstell while he was a presenter on Channel 4’s Popworld.
Simon then took his antics to the BBC, where he’s been the host of Never Mind The Buzzcocks for the past three years. Hearing that he was on tour, I snapped up a ticket.
Do Nothing is a remarkable show, which sees Amstell expose his many anxieties and fantasies. He recounts tales from his past and present, fantastically re-enacting his painful attempts to pick up skinny, vulnerable men.
The show is masterfully written as the subject matter is so personal and revealing, yet hilariously presented. His intelligent comedy carriers his audience through the issues of self-doubt, family and religion and is very quotable.
Audience members leave with big smiles and, in my case, a strange feeling of awe following such honesty.
Do Nothing comes to The Journal Tyne Theatre in Newcastle on November 4
