A GREEN, glowing meteorite lands on Susan Murphy (voiced by Witherspoon) on her wedding day and she grows in size to an impressive 49ft 11in tall. Herded to a secure military facility under the control of General WR Monger (Sutherland), she meets fellow captives including brilliant inventor Dr Cockroach PhD (Laurie), halfape half-fish The Missing Link (Arnett), indestructible gelatinous mass BOB (Rogen) and a 350-foot-long grub called Insectosaurus. When megalomaniac alien Gallaxhar (Wilson) plots to destroy mankind, President Hathaway (Colbert) issues an executive order to free the monsters and set them upon the invader from another planet. Monsters Vs Aliens is a blast from its eye-popping start to uproarious finish, peppered with cute visual gags. The script borrows heavily from The Incredibles, with nods to Godzilla and countless B-movies, but there are enough flashes of invention and a smattering of heartfelt emotion to bring a tear to the eye.
