X-Men Origins: Wolverine (12, 103 mins), Twentieth Century Fox, DVD £19.99/XMen Quadrilogy DVD £29.99/Blu-ray £28.99/X-Men Quadrilogy Blu-ray £67.99)

JAMES "Logan" Howlett (Jackman) and best friend Victor Creed (Liev Schreiber) are mutants who fight side by side in the American Civil War, then two World Wars and in Vietnam. Shady military man William Stryker (Huston) invites them to join Team X, but Logan gradually becomes disillusioned by the senseless killing and leaves for the Canadian Rockies with girlfriend Kayla (Collins). This is a haphazard introduction to an iconic character and director Gavin Hood punctuates the poorly-paced narrative with explosive action set-pieces, which are overloaded with digital special-effects.
The Last House On The Left (Extended Version) (18, 109 mins, Universal Pictures (UK), DVD £19.99/Blu-ray £24.99)
Stars: Tony Goldwyn, Monica Potter, Sara Paxton, Garret Dillahunt, Aaron Paul, Riki Lindhome, Spencer Treat Clark.
MARI Collingwood (Paxton) and her friend Paige flirt with shy teenager Justin (Treat Clark), who promises the girls a share of his drugs stash. Back in his motel, the girls are attacked by Justin’s father, escaped criminal Krug (Dillahunt), his brother Francis (Paul) and girlfriend Sadie (Lindhome). Paige is stabbed to death and Mari is raped and left face down in the river.
She manages to paddle home to her parents John (Goldwyn), who is a doctor, and Emma (Potter) in the middle of a storm. John realises the people sheltering in the guesthouse are Krug, Francis, Sadie and Justin. Dennis Iliadis’s 21st Century remake of Wes Craven’s notorious 1972 shocker is a pointless revisit to a landmark in modern cinema, spruced up with impressive make-up and special effects.

As Saya begins to clean up the vampire infestation on and around the base, she threatens to expose her true identity.
