JEFF Healey was to the blues guitar what Stevie Wonder is to the piano.
Blind from the age of eight months, due to a rare form of cancer, Healey picked up the instrument at three and went on to become one of the foremost musicians of his genre. His trademark style of playing the guitar on his lap gave his music a sound all of its own.
Last year he succumbed to cancer leaving behind a legacy of fantastic recordings.
Many of these can be heard on this album, including the cover of George Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps and the hit single Angel Eyes.
As far as Best ofs… go this is one of the most comprehensive, consisting of two CDs and a DVD containing unreleased live video, interviews and candid shots. The collection also features the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner and Keith Richards.
Few things I’d say are a must, but if you are fan of Jeff Healey, then this is one.
