IF you think that country has had it boundaries stretched too far then you need to listen to a new release from an artist called Steff Nevers.
His album is almost 100 per cent country as we knew it. Had I listened to the album without knowing of his origin I would have bet that he was a new American artist who was taking it upon himself to take the music back to pure country.
He turns out to be a 34-year-old Norwegian who, at an early age, was convinced that he should become a musician instead of a classical violinist.
Having changed course, he is becoming one of Norway’s greatest exports with his specialty being his guitar finger-picking style accompanying what we would class as good wholesome country songs, of which he has written four.
If you appreciated the time when Merle Haggard , George Jones and a few more country heroes were flying the flag for country music, then you’ll have to treat yourself to the Nevers’ experience.
I almost suggested that it is not an album for those who like the modern pop country sounds, but on second thoughts I can heartily recommend it.
