CD REVIEWS

Humphrey Lyttelton 195758 (Lake LACD269)

Another generous double CD for the price of one, this contains all the music from Here's Humph, Kath Meets Humph and Humph in Perspective. With Bruce Tu rner, Tony Coe, Jimmy Skidmore and Joe Temperley, these are some of Humph's finest early mainstream sessions.

Gary Burton/Lofty Fake Anagram + A Genuine Tong Funeral (BGO Records BGOCD723)

BGO's two for one offer brings two of the vibraphone player's finest records from the Sixties. The first quartet album features Larry Coryell, Steve Swallow and Bob Moses and the second, orchestrated by Carla Bley, is expanded to a ten-piece.

Remastered and with new notes, this is a super bargain.

Keith Jarrett/Fort Yawuh + Death and the Flower (BGO Records BGOCD715)

Another two-CD set, both featuring the Seventies quartet with Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden and Paul Motian plus Danny Johnson or Guilherme Franco on percussion.

The first was recorded in the Village Vanguard, the second in the studio. There's a stunning mixture of driving passion and gentle lyricism.
