THIS book is part of an interesting, large format series which tells the harrowing stories of real-life refugee children and why they have sought sanctuary in the UK.
Mohammed is an Iraqi Kurd. In his own words he describes the beatings and interrogations of his family under Saddam, his father’s disappearance, and his flight to safety with his mother. He tells of his terrible journey by bus, boat and then hidden in the back of a lorry, “cold, afraid, wet and always hungry”. But his fortunes turn for the better, as he eventually settles down to life in England, complete with a new stepfather, baby sister and lots of friends.
A harrowing tale which should make readers proud of the welcome our country extends to people desperately in need of safety and freedom.
