HOW does one even begin to write a review of my most favourite of bands?
For those of you that don’t know, the excellent indietronica trio are made up of Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty and Iain Cook – now in their seventh year together.
The Glaswegian band are currently touring the UK on the back of their critically acclaimed third album Love is Dead.
Getting myself and the crowd absolutely bouncing, they launch the night with the synthtastic Get Out, Bury It and continue with Gun.
The rest of the set concentrates on their latest album with the dreamy Miracle and Doherty taking lead vocals for God’s Plan, but they still drop in a triple of classics with Recover, Leave a Trace and ending the evening with the delicious Clearest Blue creating pure elation before the break.
And as the lights reignite for the encore we are treated to a wonderfully haunting a cappella chorus of The Mother We Share from the peerless Mayberry with all singing along before the track kicks off in full, and concluding with the much darker Never Say Die.
It has truly been an astonishing night in Newcastle. Love is Dead you say, Lauren? Well, if this gig is anything to go by, my absolute adoration for CHVRCHΞS will never expire.
