JANUARY can be a quiet month for entertainment.
Most people are still getting over the excesses of Christmas and are probably all partied out. One thing is certain - there won’t be that much spare money in peoples’ pockets.
ARC in Stockton have the perfect solution for you in the New Year with three fantastic performances from wonderfully creative minds. And it doesn’t have to be expensive. All ARC’s theatre and dance performances are priced on a Pay What You Decide basis.
It’s a really simple concept – book your seat in advance, collect your ticket from the box office and then, when you’ve seen the show, simply Pay What You Decide the show was worth.
On Wednesday 16th January, the critically acclaimed Pauline Heath brings a rehearsed reading of her newest play, Never-Neverland.
A modern day satire, featuring storytelling and projected illustration, Never-Neverland invites you into a world full of sinister characters. A fairy tale? Possibly. But one which the audience might well recognise with its parallels with the present day.
Simon Carroll-Jones and Upstart Theatre come to ARC on Thursday 24th January with Marco - an allegorical tale based on the story of legendary champion cyclist and suspected drug cheat, Marco Pantani.
Simon is about to become a father and has no idea how to deal with it. Looking to one of his childhood heroes for answers, he sets off on a pilgrimage to visit the mountains of some of Pantan’s greatest victories, the scenes of his most tragic moments, and the hotel room that he died in. Darkly humorous, Marco tells the epic story of Pantani and Simon’s quest to find out what it means to be the very best.
In her life so far, Natasha Davis has had twenty-two root canal surgeries. Only one of these took place in the Syrian desert without anaesthetic but nearly all of them have a story.
Combining the autobiographical and the fantastical, Teeth Show (Wednesday 30th January) is a funny, personal, and moving look at Natasha’s experience of migrating, and how difficult it is to find a dentist!
Never-Neverland, Wednesday, January 16, Marco, Thursday, January 24 and Teeth Show Wednesday, January 30. All shows start at 7pm and are priced on a Pay What You Decide basis.
