REVIEWS: Beethoven: The Complete Violin Sonatas - Vol 2 (ASV Gold GLD 4024) Peter Cropper continues his long association with Sanctuary Classics, having recorded exclusively for it as leader of The Lindsays. To launch his solo recording career, he has chosen Beethoven's complete violin sonatas - the second of three albums which has just been released.
He is joined by pianist Martin Roscoe in dazzling performances, as they scamper cheerfully through the scores. Opus 24, Spring, is a particular treat.
Mozart: Sonatas and Rondos, Marcia Hadjimarkos (Avie AV2138) This is the closest it comes to what Mozart must have heard when he first conceived his works.
Played on a fortepiano modelled on a Steinberg made in 1793, early keyboard specialist Marcia Hadjimarkos takes the listener through a broad selection of sonatas and rondos.
Mozart: Sinfonia Concertante; Violin Concerto; Duos; etc, Graffin/ Imai (Avie AV2127) The superlative technique of viola player Nobuko Imai is combined with the sensitivity of her violinist partner Philippe Graffin to produce a heavenly rendition of one of Mozart's finest works, the Sinfonia Concertante.
The two CDs include the violin Concerto No 3 and a rondo and adagio for violin and orchestra.
